Johannes Brahms

Johannes Brahms

1833-1897

Johannes Brahms was born in Hamburg, Germany, but spent most of his professional life in Vienna, where he was an influential member of the city’s musical circles. His style is considered both forward- and backwards-looking; he rooted his work in the techniques of the classical masters but forged ahead with new romantic ideas of harmony and structure. He is among the most respected composers of his era and admired by many subsequent figures.
