Completed in 1865, this sonata features a substantial piano part, which Brahms stated under no circumstances [should] assume a purely accompanying role.’ This work is full of beautiful melodies, and luscious harmonies, and covers a wide spectrum of emotions. This new transcription of the first movement by Lorraine Campet includes fingering and bowing suggestions to the player, in addition to optional piano accompaniments in solo and orchestral tuning.
