Viktor Kosenko

Viktor Stepanovych Kosenko (23 November 1896 – 3 October 1938) was a Ukrainian composer, pianist, and educator, renowned by his contemporaries as a master of lyricism. His career unfolded in three main stages: studies in Warsaw with Aleksander Michałowski; teaching and directing the music school in Zhytomyr; and later work in Kyiv, where his symphonic music, including the *Heroic Overture*, gained wide recognition. Kosenko’s style blends post-Romantic lyricism with Slavic folk elements and Western European influences, and his vocal, chamber, and symphonic works rank among the most significant in the USSR of his time.
