Henri Vieuxtemps was a Belgian composer and virtuoso violinist, famed for his influence on the Franco-Belgian school of playing and his well-known Guarneri ‘del Gesù’ violin. Though a stroke put an end to his performing career, Vieuxtemps continued to compose throughout his lifetime, composing mainly violin works but also a handful of concertos for other instruments and string quartets.
