Émile Pierre Ratez

1851-1934

French composer Émile Pierre Ratez was a pupil of François Bazin and Jules Massenet at the Conservatoire de Paris in the 1870s, and later became the director of the Lille branch of the same institution. He seems to have stayed fairly obscure, though his Six Pièces Caractéristiques have remained popular with intermediate double bassists.
