Davide Botto

Davide Botto

Born in 1965, he studied under Elio Veniali and graduated with full marks in double bass at the age of eighteen. He then continued his studies with Franco Petracchi, first at the Accademia Walter Stauffer in Cremona and later at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, where he obtained his Diploma di Merito along with a full scholarship.

In 1983, he was the only Italian double bass player selected for the European Community Youth Orchestra (ECYO, now known as EUYO). He toured several major European and Asian cities with the orchestra, under the direction of Leonard Bernstein and Claudio Abbado.

He has taught in various Italian conservatories and participated in numerous development courses. Additionally, he successfully auditioned for the position of principal double bass with the RAI Orchestra in Rome, the Arena in Verona, and the Teatro Regio in Turin. In 2009, he received the Carlo Capriata Prize, which is awarded annually to a distinguished Italian double bass player. As a principal double bass, he has been invited to perform with the Orchestra of Italian Switzerland (OSI), the OSN RAI of Turin, the Orchestre Philharmonique of Monte Carlo, the Opera of Rome, and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

Davide Botto currently serves as the principal double bass of the Orchestra and Filarmonica of the Teatro Regio in Turin, and he is also a professor of double bass at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in the city.
