Inspired by folk music – and primarily Eastern European folk tunes – this piece explores the possibilities of open strings. The Hungarian title is Bitangos, a word impossible to translate into English, so I chose to keep the original title, the closest equivalent of which would probably be ‘roguish’.

Csaba Pengő

Born in 1974, double bassist Csaba Pengő studied at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, graduating in 2004. Versatile across genres, he has performed in numerous productions and studio recordings. His debut solo album Circles (2021) features his own compositions, and his follow-up, Autumn Rain in a Secret Garden, was named “Album of the Year 2023” by the Netherlands-based Native DSD platform.
