Jules Massenet’s Méditation was originally a symphonic entr’acte that was played between the scenes of Act II of his opera Thaïs. The piece has since taken on a life of its own, and is a popular encore piece in its original version for violin and orchestra. In this new version for double bass and piano by Antonio Torres Olmo, the piece is adapted into a new key, making the composition sit beautifully on the instrument. Piano accompaniment parts for both solo and orchestral tuning are available.

This piece is in the following tonality:

  • A major for Solo Tuning and G major for Orchestral Tuning.

Antonio Torres Olmo

Antonio Torres Olmo studied with Ángel Santafé at the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Códoba, later travelling to Paris to study at the Paris Conservatoire with Thierry Barbé. In 2013, Antonio won first prize at the Premio de Interpretación Musical in Paris, the first time that a double bassist won the competition since its creation in 1991, and during 2015 and 2016 he was a resident player with the Orchestre de l’Opéra National de Paris. In 2018 Antonio was appointed as a professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Música ‘Manuel Castillo’ of Seville.
