Gisle Kverndokk

Gisle Kverndokk studied composition at the Norwegian State Academy of Music and The Juilliard School. He has written 14 musicals and operas with librettist Øystein Wiik, performed in Norway, Germany, Austria, and the USA, including Sophie’s World (1998), Martin L. (2008), Around the World in 80 Days (2010/2016), The Name of the Rose (2019), Trolle unter uns (2021), Fanny und Alexander (2022), and Soga om Sol (2023).

His works have been performed by all major Norwegian orchestras, including the Oslo Philharmonic and Bergen Philharmonic. Awards include Juilliard Composers Competition (1992), Paris ROSTRUM (1993), Composer of the Year with Trondheim Symphony (1999–2000), and Norwegian Publishers’ Award (2019). His Harp Concerto premiered in 2024 with the National Symphony Orchestra of Maribor.
