Like many of his double bass ensemble pieces, Bogusław Furtok’s Double Bass Quartet No. 2 (2002) was written for his group The Flying Basses, a double bass quartet made up of the members of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. Furtok’s music draws together varying styles, including the film music of John Williams and the symphonic scores of Mahler and Shostakovich, which Furtok came to know well through his career as an orchestral musician.
