Notes from the composer:

I have been thinking of writing a duet for double bass and cello for many years. It started with a performance and recording of a well-known duet by G.Rossini, which inspired me to think why we bass players really have only this one well-known duet. A few years later, the same thoughts accompanied me with the performance and recording of the G. Bottesini duet. At that time my cello partner Ulrich Horn asked if it was time to create something new. It took a few years for the moment to arrive. I received an invitation to a music festival in Wuhan in China in 2024, at which Ulrich was also to play. Come the summer of 2024, after a long and intense artistic season in my orchestra (Frankfurt Radio Symphony) spending a few days in Stavanger, Norway, the creative process began. Then it went quite fast, finishing my composition that same summer at home in Poland. Like my double bass quartets, it is a 4-part composition, technically very advanced, it remains in a similar musical style to my other compositions. With the help of Ulrich Horn, the cello part has been thoroughly developed and edited. However, he himself found the piece difficult to perform. The duo's premiere took place in November 2023 in Wuhan. The reaction of the audience was very spontaneous and positive. That same evening Ulrich asked if there would be more for cello and double bass from me...I hope so!
