This sonata comes from a collection of pieces for violin and continuo published by Henry Eccles in 1720. It is not actually known whether or not he wrote the piece — many of the other pieces in the collection were plagiarised, and the debate has never been settled as to whether this particular sonata is his own, though it seems likely. The G Minor Sonata has had a life of its own ever since, being transcribed for countless instruments and becoming a particular favourite amongst double bassists. This new edition by Lorraine Campet goes back to the original 1720 publication, adding in a number of the changes that bassists have made to the piece over the centuries.
Double Bass music purchased from String Virtuoso Shop comes with both a clean part and a part with bowings and fingerings from the editor & continuo part.
