Reynaldo Hahn (1874 – 1947) was a Venezuelan-born French composer, conductor, music critic, and singer. He is best known for his songs – mélodies – of which he wrote more than 100, mostly composed in a thirty-year period from 1888 to the end of the First World War.
In this collection there are three examples of Hahn’s melodies spanning his career: Si me vers avaient des ailes, composed in 1888 at the age of just 14, A Chloris (1913) and Je me souviens (1947) which was part of his final set of 9 Mélodies retrouvées. These are all highly lyrical and highlight Hahn’s unique musical voice. In this adaptation for double bass by Graham Boag, as much as possible from the originals has been maintained, with slight adaptations to suit the bow rather than the voice.
The marked-up copy of edition includes fingerings and performance directions by Aisling Reilly.
