Biography

He was born in San Miguel de Salinas, Alicante, where he began his musical studies under the direction of the preceptor D. Antonio Vicente García. In the 78-79 academic year he enrolled as an official student at the Murcia Higher Conservatory, with the tuba being his first instrument.

In the 84-85 academic year he began his double bass studies with the teacher D. Francisco Ruiz Zanón. He concluded his higher education in tuba in 1988 and in double bass in 1992 with honourable distinction and end-of-career award. In 1991 he passed the public examination to the Music and Scenic Arts teachers’ corps, and he has been a professor at the Cartagena Music Conservatory since then.

That same year, he joined the Chamber Orchestra of the Region of Murcia. He has also collaborated with other national orchestras and bands.

He has been the principal double bass of the Murcia Symphony Orchestra for five seasons and of the Torrevieja Symphony Orchestra for fourteen seasons.

It’s worth highlighting his numerous collaborations with different chamber groups such as the French quartet “Prima Vista” and the Saravasti quartet among others.

During his education, he took improvement courses with renowned teachers such as Jaime Robles (ONE), Emilio Maravella (ONE), Jeff Bradetich (University of Chicago), Frano Kakarigi (Granada City Orchestra) and has studied for four years with Slawomir Grenda (Munchner philharmoniker).

He has also participated in A. Maschat’s orchestra conducting course. On a pedagogical level, he has attended courses by Antonio García Araque, Bernard Salles, Thierry Barbe, Piermario Murelli and many more.
As a teacher, he conducted the orchestra of high school music of Cartagena for three seasons. He has given courses to the Youth Orchestras of the Region in their two sections, and in the conservatories of Cáceres, Lorca, Murcia and Guadalajara. He has also directed in 2012 the History of Music course at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.

It’s noteworthy the publication of several works aimed at double bass pedagogy (Contrabajo para niños 1 and 2, Espiritual for double Bass Solo, Piles 1996) and his artistic interests have led him to enter the world of literature and publish several novels.

Currently, he is a professor at the Cartagena Conservatory of Music and principal double bassist of the Cartagena Symphony Orchestra.
