Gerda Kocsis was born in 1998 in Budapest. She studied with Peter Kubina and graduated with her Bachelor’s degree at the Liszt Academy of Music in 2017. She got accepted to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with a full scholarship to study with Professor Thomas Martin, where she graduated with her Master’s degree in June 2022.

Gerda was awarded first prize at the Lajos Montag National Double bass Competition and won the prize for the best performance of the obligatory piece in 2017. She also got first prize in Slovakia at the Dittersdorf International Double Bass Competition in 2019. She is currently teaching at the Leeds Conservatoire and playing with orchestras such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra.
