Very little is known about the composer Franz Keyper, and the exact date and whereabouts of his birth are unknown. We do know that he arrived in Copenhagen around 1788, possibly on a tour, where he remained as part of the court orchestra. Keyper wrote seven double bass concertos in addition to a couple of smaller works featuring the solo double bass.
