Rachmaninov’s Vocalise is a firm favourite amongst instrumentalists and singers alike. Originally composed in 1912 and revised in 1914, this wordless song for high voice and piano is the touching final installment in the composer’s 14 Songs op. 34. As Rachmaninov once said ‘What need is there of words, when you will be able to convey everything better and more expressively than anyone could with words by your voice and interpretation?’. This piece has been arranged for countless instruments, and this new version by Alessandra Avico suits the singing middle register of the double bass perfectly.
