Difficulty: Virtuoso

Serge Koussevitzy’s Four Pieces came about in the early twentieth century as the young double bassist was becoming widely known as a virtuoso performer. At the time, there were only a handful of solo pieces available to double bassists, as the music of Bottesini was not widely performed. Koussevitzky commissioned a number of solo pieces in addition to writing some of his own, including these four short salon-style pieces, now commonly performed together as a cycle.
