Difficulty: Virtuoso

Dittersdorf’s Double Bass Concerto No. 2 is among the most popular works performed on the instrument, and is a regular feature of recitals and auditions. This piece was originally written for performance in Viennese tuning, and makes use of frequent arpeggio patterns that follow the open strings of this tuning. As some passages are awkward on the modern double bass, this edition by Christine Hoock gives alternatives for some sections. Unlike many 20th-century editions of the concerto, this version stays true to the manuscript and does not make cuts. Included are the original cadenzas by Sperger, taken from the source material for the work.
