Difficulty: Virtuoso

Brahms’s Cello Sonata no. 1 is a staple of the cello repertoire, and is fast becoming a favourite amongst double bassists.Completed in 1865, this sonata features a substantial piano part, which Brahms stated that ‘under no circumstances [should] assume a purely accompanying role.’ This work is full of beautiful melodies, luscious harmonies, and covers a wide spectrum of emotions. This new transcription of the first movement by Lorraine Campet includes fingering and bowing suggestions to the player, in addition to optional piano accompaniments in solo and orchestral tuning.
